Government Quarters
The Government Quarter (RKV) was severely damaged in the 2011 (July 22) terror attack. Plans for
rebuilding RKV has been highly debated but demolition and construction are now well in progress. We will
visit the temporary July 22 Memorial, see plans for the future urban landscape and get the opportunity to
see and discuss temporary and permanent security measures established after the terror attack.
The project give insight into planning large new public buildings in a dense, existing urban fabric, and
handling the consequences of terror in new public areas.
The walk will further bring us through the central urban heart of Oslo with national institutions and urban
landscapes of high symbolic value. We will pass Stortinget (Parlament), Karl Johan Street, Spikersuppa,
Slottet, Nationaltheatret, Rådhuset (Oslo City Hall).
Project New National Museum
We will continue to the construction site of the New National Museum that will open in 2020. At
Mellomstasjonen visitor center we will get a better understanding of how the largest art museum in
Northern Europe will impact its neighborhood. A guided tour with helmets will bring us into the building site
and a pre-view of central attractions like the New Museum Plaza, Light Hall, Munch Room and the great
fjord view from the Museum Roof Terrace.
IFLA World Congress 2019 will take a closer look at urban transformation, green mobility, healthy and beautiful landscapes and community participation. During three days in Oslo, we aim to inspire, challenge and intrigue you. We want you to share and reflect on the knowledge that is developed, presented and discussed.
Join us in moving one step further to understand and protect our COMMON GROUND.
